1. Introduction
SyntaxQuest ("SyntaxQuest", "we", "us", "our" or "the App"), operated by Altech Dev, respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it and what choices you have when using our mobile app for iOS, watchOS, widgets, website (syntaxquest), educational content, community features, subscriptions, ads and AI tutor.
By using SyntaxQuest you accept the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Account information
When you create an account we may collect your username, email address, authentication identifiers, display name, profile information provided by Apple or Google sign-in, account settings, subscription status and support communications.
2.2 Learning and progress data
We collect data needed to operate the App, including completed lessons, exercise answers, XP, streaks, gems, achievements, leaderboard entries, saved code, preferences, course progress, daily challenge activity, ratings and other in-app learning events.
2.3 Device, usage and diagnostic data
We may collect device type, operating system, app version, language, country or region, approximate usage events, session duration, feature interactions, crash logs, performance data and diagnostic information. This helps us maintain reliability, prevent abuse and improve the App.
2.4 AI tutor and generative learning
Messages, prompts, code snippets, questions and context you send to the AI tutor or guided learning features are processed through our backend and may be forwarded to third-party AI providers, including DeepSeek and OpenAI, to generate educational responses. Do not send secrets, passwords, private keys, financial data, health data or other highly sensitive information. We do not intentionally use tutor conversations to identify you beyond what is necessary to provide, protect and improve the service.
2.5 Community content
If you use community features, we may process comments, usernames, reports, moderation signals, timestamps and related metadata. Content posted in community areas may be visible to other users.
2.6 Purchase and subscription information
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. We do not receive or store your full card number, bank details or billing credentials. We may receive transaction identifiers, entitlement status, product identifiers, expiration dates and renewal status needed to unlock purchases and provide support.
2.7 Advertising data
Free users may see ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may process advertising identifiers, device information, approximate location, in-app activity and ad interaction data, subject to your device settings and applicable consents. We request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission before any tracking that requires consent under Apple's rules.
2.8 Notifications
If you enable notifications, we may use notification tokens and settings to send streak reminders, learning prompts, rewards and service messages. You can turn them off from your device settings.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- Operate, personalize and improve the App
- Save progress, achievements, streaks and preferences
- Provide AI tutor responses and guided learning
- Process purchases, subscriptions, entitlements and restores
- Show ads to free users and measure their performance
- Run leaderboards, challenges, rewards and community features
- Detect, prevent and investigate fraud, cheating, spam, abuse, security incidents and breaches of our Terms
- Provide support and respond to requests
- Analyze performance, crashes and feature usage
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights
4. Legal bases where required
Where applicable privacy law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent, legal compliance and protection of users and the App. You may withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, although this may limit certain features.
5. Website and cookies
The syntaxquest website is static and does not use tracking cookies, advertising identifiers or third-party analytics. We load fonts from Google Fonts and CSS libraries from a CDN so the site renders correctly; these services may transiently log your IP address for technical reasons. We do not use Facebook pixels, Google Analytics or similar services on this website. The mobile app does use the analytics tools described in section 7.
6. Storage, security and transfers
Progress may be stored locally on your device and, if you use an account or cloud features, synced through Firebase Firestore and other Google Cloud services. Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational measures, including HTTPS in transit, managed secret storage for sensitive server credentials, Firebase token authentication and Firestore rules for access control. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
7. Third-party services
We use third-party providers to operate the App:
- Firebase and Google Cloud: authentication, database, analytics, hosting, security and backend infrastructure
- Google AdMob: advertising for free users
- DeepSeek and OpenAI: AI tutor responses, guided learning and smart hints through our backend
- Apple StoreKit and App Store: purchases, subscriptions, refunds, Family Sharing and subscription management
- Judge0 CE: code execution for compiled languages (Java, Swift, Kotlin, C++, C#)
- Sign in with Apple and Google: authentication when you choose those methods
These services may process information under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party practices outside our control.
8. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information in the ordinary sense of selling it for money. We may share information with service providers, analytics and advertising partners, payment and platform providers, professional advisors, authorities or regulators where legally required, and successors in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring or asset transfer. Leaderboard and community information may be visible to other users.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict or object to certain processing of your personal information. You can request account or data deletion by contacting us. You can also manage notifications, ad tracking, Apple privacy settings, subscriptions and local data from your device or App Store account. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.
10. Region-specific rights
10.1 European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR/UK GDPR)
If you live in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access, rectification, erasure ("right to be forgotten"), restriction of processing, portability, objection and not to be subject to automated decision-making. You may also lodge a complaint with your country's data protection authority.
10.2 California (CCPA/CPRA)
If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, to correct it, to opt out of sharing it and not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights. We do not sell the personal information of minors under 16.
10.3 Peru (Law 29733) and LATAM
As a developer established in Peru, we comply with Law No. 29733 on Personal Data Protection and its regulations. You may exercise your ARCO rights (Access, Rectification, Cancellation, Objection) by writing to us. The National Authority for Personal Data Protection (ANPD) is competent to receive complaints. For users in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile and other LATAM countries, we respect the equivalent rights under local data protection laws.
11. Data retention
We keep information for as long as it is needed to provide the App, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse and enforce our agreements. Guest progress may remain on your device only. Leaderboard data may be reset periodically. AI tutor session content is not intended to be retained permanently, although limited logs, abuse-prevention data, backups or provider processing may persist for a limited period as needed to operate and protect the service. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a maximum of 30 days, except for data we must retain by legal obligation.
12. Children's privacy
SyntaxQuest is an educational app rated for broad audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or the minimum age applicable in their jurisdiction, without the required parental or guardian consent. Parents or guardians can contact us to request review or deletion of a minor's information.
13. International users
If you use the App outside Peru, where the developer operates, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws (especially the United States, where Firebase/Google Cloud is hosted). By using the App, you understand that such transfers may occur where necessary to provide the service, and that they will be made with the required contractual safeguards (EU Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable).
14. Accessibility
We work to make SyntaxQuest accessible. The App supports VoiceOver, Dynamic Type and reduced motion. The website follows WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines as far as reasonably practicable. If you run into an accessibility barrier, write to us and we will work to resolve it.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify you through the App, the App Store listing, the website or another reasonable method. The "Last updated" date at the top will always indicate when the current version was published. Continued use of the App after the effective date means the updated policy applies.
